So my trip to Calgary was a resounding success…made some good dough DJing, spent it all on booze and taxis. No regrets! On Friday night I went down to CJSW’s brand new studio to drop some tunes on What Would The Neighbours Think. I didn’t realize they were recording the set, but here it is!

I’m coming back to Alberta for Easter weekend, now that winter has pretty much ended. I had the good fortune of being invited to come play records in 3 different venues while I’m there- come say hi.

April 1 - Around The Way @ Bamboo, with GSD & The Fly Girls. Gonna be playing funk, hip hop, disco and house to set off the long weekend right. No cover! Babes!

April 2 - CJSW Radio Calgary, special guest 10-11pm local time- I’m stoked for this, Friday nights on CJSW were a huge part of my musical education as a teenager. My friend Shannon got this sweet timeslot recently and invited me to come play some dance music.  You can stream it on http://www.cjsw.com if you’re out of radio range…

April 2 - Modern Math @ Lord Nelson’s. Dan Solo and Mr. Geography have been bringing in huge dubstep/bass music guests to their weekly night for a while now, but this will be my first chance to check it out. Going to be laying down some dubs that I don’t get to air out much.

This weekend I say goodbye to Calgary for (probably) the last time, and make the move to Victoria, BC.  All I’m taking with me is clothes, turntables, records, and a laptop. What else do you need, really?

I look forward to exploring the place, and I’ll keep putting up new music/photos/thoughts as I come up with them.

Whew.

Just got back from the mountains of central BC, where thousands of people descend on a dusty ranch for their annual dose of madness. I gotta give a shoutout to my boys from Homebreakin, who got me in at the absolute last minute in exchange for working the booth… the HBR takeover was in full effect this year. Big shit poppin.

Highlights of the weekend-
-DJ Nu Mark absolutely destroying the Village with a flawless evening set of funk, hip hop, and random club tunes. When you’ve got the dudes from The Rub and Smalltown DJ’s rocking out, you’re doing something right.
-the Lawnchair Generals playing a superb house & acid set as the thunderstorms started on friday night.
-Mat the Alien making jaws drop in the Rock Pit on thursday, dude is unreal.
-Fatty Fresh Burritos (an annual tradition).

This dude Robb that I was camped with took hundreds of good pictures, which I’ll put up (with his permission) hopefully by the end of this week. This was my fourth or fifth time at the festival, and honestly I think it was my favourite.

NYC electro pioneer and club legend Larry Tee is coming to Calgary for a show at the Warehouse on August 3rd, along with In Order To Danse, Neighbour, DJ Gryphon, and Cameron Sinclair. I’ll have the pleasure of opening for him that night, so mark your calendars.

Okay, that was a while since the last blog post. Lots of stuff happened in the meantime…

I toured around Europe (Prague, Rome, Florence). All great cities, but my heart still belongs to Berlin. I’ll post a couple choice pictures in a minute.

The party w/ Brett Johnson was a success, I had a blast, and lots of friends showed up to say hi.

For music, I’ve been downloading mixes from the Eh Team blog, brought to you by a handful of Canada’s best DJs. Bookmark that shit.

Just wrapping up my life in Berlin right now- selling off furniture, giving away books, starting to pack. Kind of sad, but tempered with being excited to return. Not to mention a trip through the Czech Republic and Italy.

Wow, this feels a little strange to be writing about a show in Calgary. Guess I better get used to it! I’m headed back on the 4th/5th, and this show will be a perfect homecoming bash.
