You can do worse for themes than the city of Detroit, Michigan.

First of all, I caught the legendary Theo Parrish on Friday, alongside Robert Owens, Omar S, and Quarion. Theo played across a lot of tempos and styles (disco, soul, house, hip hop) which weirded out a lot of the people there, but I was enjoying myself- just wished he laid off the eq’s a bit. The venue was Engelbrot, an old-style theater not far from my house. I uploaded a bit of footage:

There’s a steady stream of forward-thinking music coming out of Resident Advisor, which combines Pitchfork Media-like coverage of electronic music with event listings and some great podcasts. The latest one is from Norway’s Todd Terje on the new disco tip.
