I just got back from a great weekend in Düsseldorf, where I managed to take in the best of the city in a hectic 2 days. After a hair-raising autobahn ride home, I’m now faced with the problem of how to spend my last few shekels…this month is just stacked with stuff to do. Zum Beispiel:
03.04: Portishead @ Columbia Halle
04.04: Laurent Garnier @ Weekend
04.04: Malente @ Icon
04.04: Ricardo Villalobos @ Panorama Bar
05.04: Andy C @ Maria
05.04: John Selway, Tiger Stripes @ Berghain
05.04: M.A.N.D.Y. @ Watergate
10.04: Tiefschwarz @ Weekend
11.04: Bonobo @ Icon
12.04: Steve Bug, Phonique, D’Julz @ Watergate
12.04: Gene Farris @ Tresor
12.04: DJ Pierre, Jesse Rose, Style of Eye, Renato Cohen @ Berghain
17.04: Sven Väth, Konrad Black @ Watergate
18.04: DJ Godfather @ Tresor
26.04: Junior Boys, Cassy, Konrad Black @ Berghain
30.04: Trentemoller @ 103 Club
30.04: Matthew Dear, Troy Pierce @ Watergate
30.04: A Guy Called Gerald @ Maria
Shit…I tried to narrow it down.

PNAU is an Australian group that makes catchy-as-hell electro pop, and music videos with dancing strawberries.
If you’re not into this, you probably get off on kicking puppies.
“Come Together” on their Myspace player is really good too.

Some high tech vandalism took place in LA last week, with Skullphone getting his/her/its logo on 10 massive digital billboards.
I applaud any and all attempts at fucking with Clear Channel. Nicely done.

Paul Ford decided to download and review all 763 of the promo tracks given out by performing bands before the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. He gives a tongue-in-cheek 6 word review of every one, with links to the track and band info.
I’m just amazed he followed through with it, considering the time required and the apparent shittiness of most of the bands.

Maybe I’m out of it, but when I was a 15 or so, I remember Craze being this turntablist guy who also played jungle, and since then I really haven’t heard a lot from/about him.
Well he did a Fabric Live CD, and put out this preview mix beforehand, and it’s definitely not what I would have pictured. Rap, 80’s jams, mashups, club music, and some guilty pleasures, stitched together with some tasteful fader work.

After checking out some music U-Tern posted at One Day Later, one track in particular really grabbed me, and sounded like it needed a quick edit.
Beefed up, DJ friendly, 120 bpm. Leave a comment if you’re feeling it.
Jerome Prister - Say You’ll Be (DJ Emmett edit) - direct download
P.S. Go buy U-Tern’s new EP!

The disco steamroller that is Matt “Neighbour” Dauncey has a new record out on US imprint Agave…
Four tracks, ranging from deep house to electro funk. You can check out sound samples on the Homebreakin Records website and then buy the thing over at Primal (coming soon to Juno as well).

I arrived in Germany with a pathetically limited knowledge of local music (producers, trends, labels), and this is one guy I regret not finding out about sooner.
Koze is from Hamburg, and is part of a band called International Pony- they make bouncy synthy pop music, kinda reminiscent of Chromeo:
International Pony - Gothic Girl
The solo production work by Koze is really exceptional though. Have a listen through his Myspace player (with remixes of Alter Ego and Matthew Dear) and it becomes clear the guy makes heavy electronic music, but doesn’t fit into the plip-plop minimal image of so many of his peers. Odd harmonies, pitched vocal samples, and rough noises lurch forward in a Carl Craig cadence.
This is a remix of a track he did with Sid Le Rock, on the Cereal/Killers label. You can buy it- along with most of Koze’s other productions- at Beatport.

Palms Out Sounds just got a jaw-dropping mix from Kid Fresh, who is a German dude living in Shanghai…the mix is short but dense, and super eclectic. My kinda shit. You can download it here.
Check out the original post for the (really long) tracklisting and a short interview.
